In the previous blog, we had discussed the benefits of technology in the Apparels Industry. Increasing use of technology has led to the development of a wide range of Functional Apparels. Anti-Odour Apparels, made with fabrics having anti-odour and antibacterial properties are one of the well-known and widely available types of functional apparel.

One of the main reasons for its wide popularity is the rise of concern about safety and protection of health, during and after the Covid 19 pandemic. People have become more conscious about their health and how to protect themselves from disease-causing harmful bacteria and viruses.

One of the key benefits of antibacterial apparels is that they can help to prevent body odor. This is because bacteria are one of the main causes of body odor. By preventing the growth of these bacteria on the fabric, or on the skin of the wearer antibacterial apparels can help to keep the wearer smelling fresh and clean throughout the day.

In addition, antibacterial apparels are also great for people with sensitive skin. These apparels are designed to be gentle on the skin and can help to prevent skin irritation and rashes caused by bacteria and other microorganisms. This makes them a great choice for people with sensitive skin, or for anyone who is looking for a more comfortable and refreshing clothing experience.

Another benefit of antibacterial apparels is that they can help to reduce the spread of infectious diseases. This is particularly important in healthcare settings, where patients are at a higher risk of infection. Antibacterial apparels can also be used in homes, schools, and other public spaces to help prevent the spread of germs and bacteria.

Finally, last but not the least, the antibacterial property can help to prolong the life of the apparel itself. This is because bacteria and other microorganisms can cause fabrics to deteriorate over time, leading to holes, tears, and discoloration. By preventing the growth of these microorganisms, antibacterial apparels keep looking and feeling new for longer.

Antibacterial apparels can be manufactured in a number of ways. They are designed to keep the wearer fresh and clean all day long by preventing the growth and spread of bacteria and other microorganisms on the fabric. The special chemicals or coatings used in the production of these apparels are designed to be long-lasting and effective, even after multiple washes. Although antibacterial apparels, like other functional apparels, provide great benefits for specific use cases. The major challenge faced is making them sustainable and safe for the wearer and the environment as a whole.

In Turms, we have taken the inspiration from nature, for designing the antibacterial properties in our apparels and at the same time be sustainable and non toxic.

Neem plant, has been widely used for its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, throughout Indian culture. Similarly, Aloe Vera has been used in various cultures throughout the world for its soothing and medicinal properties. Neem contains silver nanoparticles and Aloe Vera contains Zinc Nanoparticles.

Silver nanoparticles have been found to be particularly effective against gram-negative bacteria, such as E. coli and Salmonella, as well as gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes.

Zinc nanoparticles, on the other hand, have been found to be effective against a wide range of bacteria, including both gram-negative and gram-positive strains. The mechanism of action of both type of nanoparticles is through the release of positive sliver ions and zinc ions respectively, which disrupt the bacterial cell membrane and inhibit the growth of bacteria.

Both silver and zinc nanoparticles are generally considered to be safe for use in textiles and other materials. They are not toxic to humans and do not cause any adverse effects on the environment. They are also less likely to cause the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria compared to traditional antibiotics. Zinc nanoparticles have long been used in cosmetics and pharma for skin care applications.

Turms, Intelligent apparels have an antibacterial finish, made from silver and zinc nanoparticles, derived from plant extracts and which is synthesized , processed and stored, following the most stringent GMP practices. We are proud to say that our antibacterial apparels have been tested and accredited for safety by international testing labs such as TUV, Intertek for conforming to safety standards set by accreditation bodies such as REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals), GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and OEKOTEX.

Thus, we are fully committed to our customer’s health and safety. Moreover, while traditional antibacterial finish, wash away from the apparel after multiple washing, our antibacterial property remains for the standard lifetime of the apparel (30 wash cycles).

In this blog, we have discussed about our apparel’s antibacterial and anti odor property. In the next blog, we will discuss the future technologies we will be launching in our new collections.
